JOSEPHA MERZ artistic exploration is an intimate dialog between the essence of nature and the profound complexity of human existence. Each piece serves as a silent prose writer, with organic materials expressing stories of the enduring interplay and delicate dance of existence. For her, everything happens simultaneously, with a richness of contrast and an elusive intensity. She moves in her materials in a permanent interplay and rarely limit herself to a single artistic practice. In her performances, she sees the natural world as both a stage and a participant. It is a choreography of movement and stillness that goes beyond verbal language to explore the nuanced landscapes of emotion. The backdrop becomes a canvas for unspoken dialog and invites the audience to reflect on the subtle threads that connect us. In her installations and sculptures, she is exploring the unobtrusive beauty of the unspoken, creating a space in which the viewer can embark on a contemplative journey. She is interested in a sensual sensitivity that invites the viewer into a depth that does not always have to be pleasant. She finds it rather difficult to find words for these processes - “it is a different space, a sacred space and I hope to be able to reach and touch people with it, in whatever way I can”- Josepha Merz.
